DQ 1) According to Chavravety (2020), often, academically strong students lose confidence in their abilities and past achievements because of the pressure associated with doctoral education and expectations, which has led to the impostor phenomenon. Learners often make the mistake of comparing themselves and their writing to other classmates during the early stages of a doctoral program. This can lead to a unwanted stress and anxiety. However, it is important to note that at this stage doctoral learners are all developing their academic voices and grappling with how to successfully author research papers that balance original work with recognizing and crediting the works used as research foundations.
Discuss how the Emergent Writer Worksheet is helping you better understand the balance between research and writing preparation. How did your interaction with that resource help you identify areas in your previous writing process that needed improvement? How will you further develop your writing skills to meet expectations and be able to critically present and defend a position based on the extant research? How will developing writing skills help you overcome "impostor syndrome" and improve your confidence as an academic writer?
DQ 2) Doctoral writing by nature is the defense of ideas supported by reasoned academic argumentation. Consider your writing experience and skill development prior to beginning your doctoral journey. Are you as prepared to develop a written defense of ideas through logical academic argumentation as you expected upon entering the program?
