What is 'Quality'?

One of the early challenges in the study of Quality is deciding exactly what is meant by the word. This assessment task allows you to explore its meaning through the study of a service or product which you can observe. It also gives you a chance to engage with the academic literature and practice your writing skills.
The Assessment Task
Identify a product or service for which you can observe the production process.
Good Examples:
• A coffee at a coffee shop. The production process for the coffee is observable.
• The hiring of a new employee in a company that I work for. As I work in the company I can observe the process.
• A burger in a fast food outlet. The production process can be observed from order to fulfilment.
• A piece of furniture produced by a company I work for. The production process can be observed as I work in the company.
