Third-Party Policing

The concept that stood out to me the most was Third-Party Policing. I found that TPP can be a viable solution for police agencies dealing with budget cuts. Budget cuts can have a negative effect on public safety, as fewer resources become available. TPP can help combat the negative effects of budget cuts by providing police agencies with more resources that allow them to cut back on police presence and responsibilities in certain areas. One example where this concept can be applied would be police presence at public stores such as Walmart. Police agencies can save on the cost of having police officers present at every store by tasking Walmart with the responsibility of hiring their own private security. In doing so, Walmart can still help control and reduce crime at their stores, while allowing police agencies to save money and focus on different problems that affect their cities.

POST 2
It’s not every day that people think of including military tactics in police work. What are these military tactics that they are trying to include? The use of counterinsurgency helps to take action against criminal activity in a specific location. When we use counterinsurgency not in a military way, we see that some people are hesitant to take action. As it takes a certain number of people to participate in order for there to be a positive reaction to this. It is these veterans who are now cops bringing in what they learned from their military training to help combat or even just reduce the number of crimes in a bad area(s) of the town they serve and protect. What happens if we apply this tactic to larger and more “dangerous” areas? What steps would be taken in order to make this successful?
