Description
Formal 3: Research Project (The Marketing Mashup)
Purpose (How will this help you learn?)
For this research project, you will design a creative collaboration between two companies in different industries. This assignment will showcase your critical thinking, creative thinking, and visual rhetoric skills and applying all you have learned about how media messages are made and the impact they have on us.

Tasks (What do you need to do?)
Compose the required project elements:
A written, research-based essay that argues to convince
A marketing visual created for the target audience of the mashup
A brief presentation for your peers explaining your mashup and showcasing your visual
Upload separate files for both your essay and your visual to this Canvas assignment.
Present your work to the class.
Note: If you can not or do not want to present live during the last class session (which will be held on Monday, June 6th between 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. PST), then you must submit a video file of your presentation before that date.

Extra Help (What resources will help you?)
Review the course modules, particularly those on the fundamentals of citation, MLA citation, essay structure, diction, author's purpose & intended audience.
Browse the many, many resources for creating digital projects.
Pay attention to the attached rubric.

Tips (What should you keep in mind?)
Essay Content: The written rationale that argues how the mashup will benefit each company, what the collaboration will create or produce, how the collaboration will work, who the collaboration will target, and how to best reach the target audience. As you discuss each of these aspects, you should support your ideas with sound research from scholars, industry experts, and other reliable and relevant sources.

Presentation Guidelines: This doesn't need to be long: aim for a 5-7 minute presentation. This should be enough time to explain the highlights of your project and showcase your visual. It is recommended (but not required) that your presentation feature a slideshow to help you clearly outline the key information and display the project visual. Presentation applications that are popular among students are PowerPoint, Prezi, GoogleSlides, and Canva, but you can use whatever works for you.
