Spain and Portugal’s South American colonies

Between 1808 and 1826, each of Spain and Portugal’s South American colonies achieved their
independence—except for Cuba and Puerto Rico. Write an essay in which you make an argument about the
influence of African people on the independence movement of ONE South American nation. (i.e. Colombia,
Venezuela, Bolivia, etc). Your paper must discuss the ways in which the African people of your selected
nation linked national independence to their own desires for independence.
