Regeneration is all about addressing a set of challenges or problems that an area faces. There
will be some kind of strategy and plan in place that you need to identify. The project you choose
may be in the early stages or nearing completion– it can not be fully completed. This case study
must review the theoretical framework and policy context of the chosen regeneration project;
critically analyse the implementation and progress of the project; and evaluate the progress
and/or outcomes to date. You need to be able to evaluate the case study in the light of the ideas
and concepts you are introduced to in the course to identify the approach taken to regeneration
in this case - how effective is the plan? Are the aims being met? Is there criticism or support
locally for the scheme? What are the pressures (internal and external) that the project has to
contend with?
Assessment criteria for the case study:
- Choice of an appropriate case study
- Make use of appropriate theories and concepts and ability to apply them to the chosen
case study - Display a knowledge of the academic literature and current scholarship
- Demonstrate a good understanding of the case study topic selected
- Show research skills in uncovering a range of sources of information for the topic
selected - Is well structured, and conforms to academic conventions including referencing and
bibliography set out correctly using the Harvard system of referencing and indicating in
full the sources used in this assignment
It is important that you make sure that there is sufficient information on your chosen case study
– e.g. official and other documents that outline the plans. You may also find academic literature
on your case study. If you have chosen a case study which has not been written about by
academics, then you can still apply the generic regeneration literature to your case study (ie see
how that literature applies in this particular case).
