Realism vs. Idealism

Realism vs. Idealism: For this paper, answer the question of whether you believe it is better to be realistic or idealistic when approaching the challenges we face in 2023? Realists--as embodied by Niccolò Machiavelli--believe we must approach the world as it "really is," even if that means getting ahead by lying, cheating, or other bad behavior. Idealists--as embodied by Plato--believe we should reach for lofty ideals even if we can't attain them. Is realism or idealism a better approach to climate change? Political unrest? Misinformation online? You can choose any contemporary challenge or challenges you see fit. For this essay, you must cite both Plato and Machiavelli.
