Psychology questions

  1. How is psychology defined, and what are its goals? What are the specific reasons that I chose psychology as my major? Are my reasons for choosing psychology in agreement with its definition and goals (i.e., Is psychology really what I think it is?)? Why or why not?
  2. For what occupational fields can a psychology major with a bachelor’s degree successfully prepare for and enter? Why should these fields be considered “psychology-major-related” careers even if they do not deal with specific psychological knowledge or methods?
  3. What are the things I am passionate about? How do I want to make an impact in the world? What areas or subfields of psychology am I most drawn to and why?
  4. What are my three most important work values? What are the five general ethical principles of psychology (HINT: you should look these up!)? Explain why my work values and psychology’s ethical principles are, or are not, a good match.
  5. What career(s) am I considering at this point? How will my psychology major prepare me for this career? Will I need to go to graduate school for this career, and, if so, what degree/program? Why is this career a good fit for me in terms of my work values and preference for a particular work environment?
  6. In what two extracurricular activities (e.g., student organizations, volunteer work, internships, and jobs) will I participate during my undergraduate career? In what specific ways will each of these experiences outside of the classroom help to prepare me for my career?
