We are the New Age Composers editors of a political infused pop culture magazine publication. This is an opinion piece and your audience will most likely be millennials, working professionals, full and part time students with heavy responsibilities besides studying. They may have heard of crazy and interesting stories pop up on their social media feeds and they rely on you to gain a different perspective on these stories.
Instructions:
You are to write a persuasive editorial in response to a news article you choose. It must be a current event or an on-going event that’s relevant to your audience. It must be at least three pages including three sources to support your opinions.
Rhetorical Appeals:
As stated in the textbook, editorials and opinion pieces rely on ethos and logos to persuade the reader of the validity of your position. Avoid exaggeration and oversimplification to come across as credible (ethos) and use evidence to appeal to readers’ sense of logic (logos). Contributing historical and cultural context to your pieces will engage readers even more because likely they can make a connection to the story. Draw them in with making connections. (Simply, readers may learn something new about themselves or society with the historical context you input.)
