Meaning of Revelation 3:20

Assignment: 

Write a twopage paper discussing the nature of the invitation in Revelation 3:20. Is it a gospel invitation to a lost person or an invitation to a believer? It is to be no longer than two typed pages.

Range of solutions. Does the student know various proposed answers to the problem?

Bibliography. Has the student read a number of sources? Has he correctly understood them?
