Legislative Process Diagram

$15 Minimum Wage
Bill- In 2019, the Raise the Wage Act legislation, which would rapidly increase the federal minimum wage to $15 per hour by 2025, was introduced in the U.S. House and Senate. The NFIB Research Center studied the economic effects of enacting this legislation and found that it would lead to more than $980 billion in real gross domestic product loss over 10 years and 1.6 million fewer jobs in the U.S. in 2029, with nearly 700,000 of those from businesses with fewer than 100 employees.
Purpose
The purpose of this assignment is to learn about the different stages of the legislative process and identify
several points in which social workers can intervene.
Instructions
For this assignment, you will select a bill, then create a diagram of the legislative process it went through.
Within the diagram, you will identify different opportunities at which a social worker could have intervened. The
assignment has two submission parts:
● Week 1 - Select a bill, at either the state or federal level, and submit for instructor approval.
Note: Instructor approval of your selected bill is required before continuing on to the diagram.
● Week 2 - Create a diagram of the legislative process it went through to either become a law or be
defeated.
Diagram Requirements
The selected bill must be clearly introduced by providing the following information:
● bill number,
● brief purpose,
● author and/or co-authors,
● sponsors,
● whether there are any companion bills.
