Learning activity that involves simulation or virtual reality

Identify one example of a learning activity that involves simulation or virtual reality; explain the activity in detail.
One example of a learning activity by simulation at my organization is a program that was recently adopted to teach for the recertification of CPR. Nurse educators send out a link to staff through their e-mail 30 days prior to the expiration of their BLS certification so that they can work on it as able to have completed before expiration. There is a brief overview of how to provide CPR for each of the age groups: babies, children, and adults and then the learner completes CPR in the simulation setting for different scenarios to pass towards preforming CPR on a high-fidelity mannequin in the skills lab. The mannequin is high fidelity due to responding to the intervention and action by the student through the computer simulation (Chamberlain, 2022). You must receive the approval number from the simulation experience to proceed to testing off with the mannequin. Once the adult mannequin and baby mannequin have been tested on and the learner passes, then certification is renewed for 2 years.

Explain how Debriefing for Meaningful Learning (DML) would be implemented with this learning activity.
Debriefing for Meaningful Learning (DML) uses reflection in action, on action, and beyond action to teach clinical reasoning and to think like a nurse and is fostered through discussions about the simulation when knowledge is assimilated and accommodated that reveals meaningful learning (Dreifuerst et al., 2020). There is a debriefing that takes place if you do or don't pass the testing simulation scenarios for our CPR. A summary is provided to the learner that discusses how they did, what they did well in the simulation, and what they need to improve upon or study to complete the simulation successfully to move on to the mannequins. Debriefing after simulation may improve future performance in Code situations when students are able to understand their decisions, actions, and the rationale behind them better through debriefing and is a valuable educational experience that allows students to reflect on their knowledge and performance (Ali et al., 2021).
