Thinking in terms of who receive the benefits of such actions and who are excluded from them is often missing in climate change discussions. In this essay, let's dive deeper into the uneven/unjust impacts of climate change and how we can address them. Write a short essay based on these questions:
a) Give an example of climate change or the efforts to combat climate change privileging some groups of people and disadvantaging others. Who gets affected by sea-level rise the most, globally or nationally? Did they contribute to climate change as much as the impacts they would get? Which population groups do the climate change funds support? Which populations are not adequately addressed?
b) What do you think we can do to reshape climate change action to become more equitable and just? In other words, how can the communities or neighborhoods more vulnerable to climate change be better identified and supported? What factors need to be taken into account in making policy decisions?
