MAT 117
Application Activity #1
You can type your answers into Word/docs OR write them on notebook paper-take a pic-then drag the pic into Word. Each mathematical step should be accompanied by the reason why the mathematical operation was done. On one side put what you do mathematically. On the other side explain WHY you did those things - not what you did, but why you did it. More detail is better than not enough.
Problem: The required cooling capacity in BTUs for an air conditioner is proportional to the area of the room being cooled. A room of 275 square feet requires an air conditioner whose cooling capacity is 5500 BTUs.
a) What is the constant of proportionality? (Round to two decimal places if necessary.)
b) If an air conditioner has a cooling capacity of 13,000 BTUs, how large a room can it cool?
Set up your work using the template below. (Expand the chart if needed beyond 3 steps.)
