A Model of Mental Health Practice: Integrating Public Health Approach

Explore a model of mental health practice. This is your time to reflect on a model of mental health practice that is implemented using a public health approach that considers all the areas you examined across the activities in this course. What makes a mental health practice effective? What factors must be considered? Your should explore how organizations can be responsive and adaptive to the mental and behavioral health problems of a community as they emerge. Imagine a public mental health system of the future that is well integrated with a credentialed yet diverse workforce adept at evidence-based practices and relevant to meeting the needs of people with mental illness and substance use disorders. Be sure your model includes the following: • A description of the need for mental health practices (Week 1 and 2)An explanation of how practices are be funded including forms of third-party payment (Week 3) • A consideration of social marketing to the community-at-large to increase public awareness (Week 4) • An exploration of disparities among diverse populations (Week 5) • An analysis of the policies and laws that must be considered (Week 6) • A description of optimal staffing should include nurses, physicians, psychologists, and therapists onsite (and others). What is needed to ensure an integrated system of care (Week 4 & 8) Please consider the following as you frame your paper: • How an organization could be designed to be a single mental health agency based upon a public health model. • How mental health law can lead to the elimination of barriers to access services without the use of coercion. • How to address behavioral health treatment disparity. Remember to use the DSM-V definitions for any mental health disorders you may mention.
